Xmas Single!

Add a comment

Having watched Rage Against The Machine romp home to the no.1 spot this yule, we’ve decided to enter the race quite very late with The Christmas E.P. a special bumper edition in our year of monthly songs.

Christmastime (is a time to be polite) kicks off, a seasonal song to sing whilst roasting your chestnuts on an open fire.

Carousels comes next, a dark cautionary tale about the amusement park after hours.

Hope Springs pops up - a live acoustic version from the Swinging At The Gallows sessions.

…and lastly, at no extra cost, Christmastime - karaoke version. Ideal for those Christmas Parties.

The whole EP only costs £1, and the karaoke version is a free download. That’s the spirit of Christmas right there!

Seasonal Greetings.

Today is the first day that it’s felt cold enough to really be December.  Yes, I know that you’ve already eaten 10 of the cheap chocolates behind your advent calendar doors, and that you’ve missed the last posting day to get your Christmas cards sent to your long lost relations, but…

…it’s just not really seemed Christmassy enough to be the end of the year, has it?  We have not been walking in a winter wonderland, chestnuts have stayed well away from our open fires, and the snow does not lay ’round about.  (Not deep nor crisp nor even).

We have, however, been busy little Butterflies and been embracing the festive spirit behind closed doors, and thus shall soon be unleashing our Christmas Single upon the world.  If you are good boys and girls, then “Christmastime (is a time to be polite)” should be sitting under your tree or in your stocking sometime towards the end of next week.

Mistletoe Kisses.

Just to quell the rumours that have been setting the internet aflame…

This is ‘Pregnant’ by R.Kelly

This is ‘Pregnant’ by ButterflyPolite (from the long forgotten album http)

They are not the same song.

Iffy single.

November’s single… out now.  With a slightly ‘Iffy’ theme.

“If Not Tonight” (our little tribute to the golden age of straw boater hats), and a new acoustic version of live favourite “If He’s Looking Down” are now available to listen to online, or to download to your em pee three player for £1.

Fact-ettes:

If Not Tonight …
…is our first recording to feature banjo.
…continues our theme of using ‘If’ titles, AND having the title in the first line.
…will have a video.
…initially existed as a surround sound only song.
…is great fun to play live.

If He’s Looking Down…
…name checks some great 80’s records.
…causes arguments over who should get to do the backing vocals.
…was the first song we played live at the BBC studios on Radio 6.
…has a funny length bar in the middle.
…was originally recorded as a traditional country and western sounding song.

I am testing some interweb hocus pocus that should make it a little easier to post to ButterflyPolite’s Little Bit Of Blog oftener.
And yes, ‘oftener’ is a word.  (I just checked).

Hi, Jon here from the wonderful ButterflyPolite. I thought it was about time I exercised my blogging priveledges…

Now, what I’d like to know is how many people read this outside band members? Could you comment and let me know? I know we sell cds and people come to our gigs, but I’m really curious to find out who reads these blogs and what type of thing they’re hoping for.

By the way we (the band) are apparently planning more gigs and recordings for your listening pleasure. There are also rumours of a Christmas song….

New single!

Eyes Tight Shut c/w R.E.S.P.E.C.T.E.T.C. is the second in the year of ButterflyPolite singles.

…and is available here for the princely some of one english pound.  (a.k.a. £1)

Eyes tight shut has been a live favourite for a while - and always causes some embarrassment with it’s awkward ‘U’ sound in the title for Andy to try to introduce, yet try not to sound ‘common’.  The eloqution lessons are not paying off, but fortunately he is spared that ignominy here, and the song can be enjoyed in a new studio recording.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.E.T.C. is presented here at it’s delicate live acoustic best - in startling contrast to the version on The Mess We Made album.  Sarah’s beautiful voice is naked and exposed through this song, against just an acoustic guitar and sending shivers up the spine with each syllable.  Then, at the last moment, the rest of ButterflyPolite join in at their finger-in-ear beach-boys-harmony best.

Head over to the music page to have a listen.  Don’t forget last month’s single (If You Repeat / Unnatural Selection), and remember to head back next month for November’s offerings!

This has actually clocked in about 2 hours before the 19th October release date.  Woo hoo!
