Love me do.

Having gone all ‘web 2.0′ with the Twitter, forum and Facebook Group, I now have a new game I can play - “see how popular we are”.  I remember this game from the MySpace days, where it was known as “See how many ‘friends’ I have” (a.k.a. “thanks for the add!”).

I am not 100% familiar with the Twitter phenomenom - but the aim is to gather ‘followers’.  This quasi-religious term is only slightly less intimidating than ’stalkers’.  In the real world I would like neither.  Whereas ‘friends’ are something I would like.  But they are very expensive, even on eBay.

Facebook, like MySpace, also uses the term ‘friends’.  These ‘freinds’ can vary from lovers to people-you-have-clicked-on-by-accident-because-they-share-the-same-name-as-a-Czech-computer-programmer-you-were-trying-to-contact-for-an-article-you-were-writing.

Facebook groups, on the other hand, have ‘members’.  In the case of ButterflyPolite this is a bit confusing, becasue we too have ‘members’.  They are the ones who play the instruments.  To further confuse things there is some overlap between the two with some people (myself included) being both a band member and a group member, if you see what I mean.

The ButterflyPolite Super Happy Forum uses the term ‘members’ again.  Although I can promote people to ‘Global Moderator’ or similar.  I can even promote members to roles that I have invented (”slave”, “bootboy”, “deity”, “washer-upper”).  I hereby promise shall not abuse my power.  (Much).
